Crowns

A crown is best for a tooth that is badly decayed and cannot be restored with a filling.  A crown can also be used to restore a tooth with a broken filling.  Placing a crown onto a tooth generally requires two appointments.  At the first appointment, the crown is "prepped," meaning that the decayed area of the tooth is removed.  During that appointment, impressions of the tooth to be replaced are taken and a temporary tooth covering is fabricated and placed in the patient's mouth.  About two weeks later, the final crown is placed.  During that appointment, the temporary crown is removed and the final crown is placed with permanent cement.
